critique sessions of soulful safespace sundays were crafted to offer artists space to engage about one another's work through the sharing of our creative practice. in this program, we use meditation, critical dialogue, and literary discussion as tools for support and empowerment through the creation and discussion of our artistic processes.
origin story: as Black artists living and thriving in the midwest, we found it necessary to craft , for us by us, spaces that centered the needs and desires of Black, Brown, and Indigenous artists. we wanted to create space to feel safe and rooted by community - surrounded by our people, our culture, our nuances, and our stories outside of the violence of academia and institutional systemic racism. in an effort to decolonize our proximity and understanding of art, we crafted soulful safespace sundays to reconstruct the ways in which we engage in artist feedback + critical dialogue.
critique sessions of soulful safespace sundays will return in June 2024 in the community of Saint Louis, MO.
